Domestic Partnerships
Although domestic
partnerships (whether heterosexual or homosexual in nature) are not
recognized in Florida, but are in practicality a reality, here as
well as elsewhere. Fortunately, a properly drafted set of estate planning
documents can still protect your loved ones in the event of your death, and
provide them with the ability to make decisions on your behalf during
illness or incapacity. In particular, deeds to real property should be
examined by an estate planning attorney to ensure that your home will indeed
pass to your companion at your death and if possible be preserved for your
companion in the event that you die with excessive debts.
